The space radiation environment leads to extremely harsh operating conditions for on-board electronics. Radiation accelerates the aging of semiconductor parts and materials, leading to degradation of electrical performance or premature failure. In addition to radiation, operating in space applications exposes to extreme temperatures ranging from -55°C to 125°C for mission lifetimes that can exceed 15 years.
To combat these challenges, Avalanche Technology is developing a large portfolio (1Mb – 256Mb) of highly reliable, radiation hardened Persistent SRAM (P-SRAM) products based on its proprietary pMTJ STT-MRAM technology designed to operate successfully in these harsh environments. P-SRAM is analogous to Flash technology with SRAM compatible read/write timings. Data is always non-volatile with unlimited endurance and greater than 20-year retention.
